At 9, he settled a dispute with a pistol. At 13, he lit out for the Amazon jungle. At 20, he attempted suicide-by-jaguar. Afterward he was apprenticed to a pirate. To please his mother, who did not take kindly to his being a pirate, he briefly managed a mink farm, one of the few truly dull entries on his otherwise crackling resumé.
Oh and did I mention he traversed both the Atlantic and Pacific in nothing but a rowboat?
Read the obituary for John Fairfax who is, quite literally, the most interesting man.

better days | Mister Rogers
On this day, February 19, in 1969, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” the longest-running program on public television, premiered in America.
For the record, I loved Mister Rogers… and still do.

Polaboys by Lightboys
The authentic, uniquely warm look of a polaroid enlarged on a scale of 10:1 and backlit. In a world where photos are dispensable, these snapshots become works of art to be rewarded with our deepest appreciation.
M.I.A.’s video is so bad, it’s badass.
The Up & Down of It
Today’s cold raining morning was tipped up by a cup of tea.
… then tipped over when I got bumped from my conference room.
I felt a tad better once I realized the room was needed for a meeting with M.I.A..
Although the morning would be tops if she just flipped somebody off.
Unless it was aimed at me… and then well, I might need another cup of tea.

Absolutely gorgeous kimono by Abraxax Rex.
Not sure that it’s worth the $2,100 price tag? Would it help if I told you that the garmet tag is made of solid gold and set with diamonds? True story. Nah, me neither.
((But that still doesn’t detour me from imagining myself dancing on my bed wearing it))
((click through for the color run video))
Absolutely brilliant! The Color Run, a 5k race where you start in pristine whites and along the way are transformed into your inner Rainbow Brite by the time you reach the finish line.
EmphasisAdded couldn’t be more right, it’s a Technicolor Dream Run!!!
This is happening. Now, who’s in?
I used to live just one block away from this bodega when I first landed in NYC. My first real experience shopping outside of a grocery store for my everyday essentials. But the guys that worked there were extremely friendly during a time when I felt completely lost and alone, which made it my go-to.
So when I stumbled onto this article about my first bodega in the HuffPo and learned that tucked away, hidden upstairs was an abandoned Hollywood theatre my “awwww” turned into “ohhhs and ahhhs”.
And just like that, my faith in magic was restored.
